‘Out damned spot!’: The Lady Macbeth Method

I’ve been seeing all sorts of advice on proper hand-washing online. However, it occurred to me that no-one knows proper hand-washing like Lady Macbeth, the original queen of proper and vigorous hand-washing. Here is a guide below for reference:

And there we have it. Try the Lady Macbeth method at home for assured clean hands at all times; she even suggests one wake up in the early hours of the morn and proceed with hand-washing in the dark in place of sleep.

Also, if you’re tired of going to the shops for soap or they’re out, you can always make your own! I made this batch the other day, you can watch the process below.

For this recipe I used

Ingredients

Half a block of melt and pour soap base
15 drops lavender oil
10 drops cypress oil
12 drops grapefruit oil
A speck of pink, green, and gold mica powder

Method
1. Melt your soap base in the microwave
2. Add scents and oils of choice
3. Add mica colour of choice
4. Pour into silicon mould
5. Allow to cool and harden

And there you go, you can become a Lady Macbeth pro-handwasher and an Austenian ‘accomplished lady’ all in one day!

Thought of the Day

For the most comprehensive and rigorous hand-washing routine, turn to Shakespeare’s Macbeth Act V. Scene i. 39-45.
